Pride goeth before fall !

Machhendra, the proud and overbearing yogi, reaches the Capital of Maharani Tilottama of Kamrup. No male was ever allowed within the boundaries of Kamrup. Tilottama cause Machhendra no end of harasment for having crossed over into Kamrup but his yogic powers render her helpless to do him any harm. Infuriated, she tries, treachery and deceit against him, and succeeds in bringing him down from his spiritual height. Machhendranath is bewitched by her beauty and becomes again a worldly man, a slave of her coquetry and her captivating charm.

His disciple, Gorakhnath, returns after twelve years of penance and immediately goes in search of Machhendra. He learns from hanuman that Machhendra is the father of a twelve year old boy. Gorakhnath goes to Kamrup with the intention of wea ning him from his worldly ways. The Maharani tries to torture him in various ways. Gorakhnath resists all her efforts to subdue him. One day, on the strength of physical prowess, truth and ahimsa, he succeeds in completely defeating her. His devotion to this Guru and his sacrifice on his behalf win the day. He releases his Guru from worldly shackles.

Spritualism once again triumphs over worldliness.
